Academic Programs

CCA’s Early Childhood Program teaches K4 and K5 students the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. Through a variety of learning experiences, students expand their horizons and learn Biblical precepts. Young students engage in developmentally appropriate academics, playtime, special classes, and chapel services. CCA’s Early Childhood Program is a full, fun introduction to school.

Cornerstone’s Elementary School teachers build the love of Christ into young students’ hearts. Through strong academics and engaged instruction, CCA equips young students with a solid Biblical foundation. Every discipline is approached from a Biblical perspective, and frequent field trips support classroom learning. Students engage in a wide variety of Special classes, such as Art, Music, Computer Science, and Physical Education.

CCA’s High School instructors equip students to move forward toward college and careers with their faith as a framework for success. CCA’s high school curriculum far surpasses the State of Ohio requirements for graduation and provides students to navigate a complex world with Biblical truth. CCA graduates are regularly accepted into top-tier universities and well-prepared for college coursework. A wide array of co-curricular activities round out the academic experience while providing leadership opportunities for students.

Academic Support

Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their home school district may access tutoring services through the use of the State of Ohio’s Jon Peterson Scholarship Program. Working in conjunction with this program, qualifying students receive professional tutoring.
The College Counseling Program provides personal counseling to students and their parents, helping them navigate the college selection and the application process. Juniors and Seniors must attend a mandatory meeting with the Director of Student Counseling to discuss college planning. Parents are also strongly encouraged to attend college counseling sessions. The counselor helps students understand the college application process, maximize scholarship and financial aid opportunities, and consider college majors and career paths. Presently the Principal, Director of Student Counseling, and Junior and Senior Class Advisors share academic guidance responsibilities at CCA. Numerous resources for college and financial aid searches are also available through the College Counseling Lending Library.

Cornerstone Christian Academy offers qualifying juniors and seniors College Credit Plus (CPP) coursework through Ohio Christian University. OCU coursework aligns with CCA’s Biblical worldview in content and curriculum. CCP students have the opportunity to complete selected dual-credit courses on the CCA campus, using Chromebook technology. CCP credit meets CCA graduation requirements, and also represents transferable college credit. CCA does not grant direct dual credit for coursework taken outside of the CCA-CCP program. Students who present transcripts for college coursework taken at other institutions may be given elective credit at the discretion of the Administration.

In order to provide students with a technologically relevant educational experience, CCA provides Chromebooks to its student body. Each student has access to a Chromebook during the academic day; high school students may also take their Chromebook units home. CCA’s Technology Team has put many Chromebook safeguards in place to protect students. The goal is to ensure the highest level of security, so technology enhances the learning experience. Obviously, there are many social media websites that contain inappropriate content–these sites have been filtered out, and the current system aligns with CCA’s Christian mission. Chromebooks have been equipped to use many apps that will enhance learning. However, students are not able to add apps unless CCA’s Faculty or Administration has approved them.

Fine Arts

Our Fine Arts Department exists to glorify God by developing the talent he has graciously given each and every student. Some students have “behind-the-scenes talent” and others are “front and center.” Our students know that it takes both types of talent to create a God-honoring show. Students enjoy instruction from a biblical worldview with an emphasis on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Performing Arts

High School drama presentations include opportunities to refine talents not only in acting but also in stage management, lighting, sound, costumes, set construction, and other areas of the production.

Pre-K – 7th grade students also enjoy participation in our performing arts department. In addition to bi-weekly instruction in music class, they present two productions each year. Productions vary but can include choral music performances, plays, skits, and live instrumentals.
Students learn to use their musical gifts to God’s glory as members of CCA’s Worship Team. Utilizing a variety of musical skills, this student-powered team serves by leading CCA’s student body in contemporary worship music during weekly chapel services. The goal is to help students focus on Christ and His love, and open their hearts to the Bible lesson. A high school team leads older students, while a team comprised of middle school students serves in the elementary chapel.

Visual Arts

High School students may choose the yearbook as an elective. They will become familiar with different types of software, layout, design, attention to detail, and the necessity of meeting deadlines. Along with the class advisor, they will plan, create, and ultimately publish the school yearbook. This elective requires a yearlong commitment.

Pre-K – 3rd grade students will develop skills in drawing, painting, paper mache, and various crafts. They will learn about the color wheel and basic art principles.

Our 4th through 12th-grade students enjoy instruction from a biblical worldview with an emphasis on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Different techniques presented include accuracy, composition, sketching, shape relationships, observation, interpretive, still-life, 2D drawing, and much more. Some techniques for instruction include lectures, bible studies, art history, and presentations. Mediums include charcoal, pencil, colored pencil, paint, and crayon.

Every March student artwork is exhibited in the CCA Art Show. This event showcases the original works of art that have been thoughtfully created over the course of the school year.

For some students, there may be additional opportunities to express their talents in the visual arts with set design.
